3. Icons
Icons are pictures representing programs.
Icons to open programs
Sometimes an icon will just launch the program. Launching is what it's called when a program opens.
Above is the icon to open the Photoshop program. When you double-click on this icon, Photoshop will launch.
Icons to open files
You may also see an icon with an arrow on it like above. This means it's a shortcut to the real file location. It will open the program in the same way.
Icons can also be found next to individual documents (files). If you see a document that has an icon for a particular program, the document will open in that program.
Above is an icon for a Photoshop file called "The capture.psd". When you double-click on the icon, this file will open in Photoshop.
