Assignment #23
Photoshop Project 8
Due Date: February 25
Instructions
Move a photographic element from one photograph to another. Use an alpha channel to create a mask and a selection. Review Lesson 07e/f for help in making masks and alpha channels.
- GET SET UP
- Create a new folder in your username folder called "Lastname Project 8". (Be sure to replace "Lastname" with your actual last name.)
- Get two photos. One will be your desired background (we'll call this image 2). The other will have your desired foreground image against an unwanted background (call this image 1.)
- I will be grading on difficulty. A foreground image which is super easy to mask from its background will not score as highly as a challenging one.
- Open the photographs in Photoshop.
- CREATE THE MASK & ALPHA CHANNEL
Using the skills you learned in Lesson 07, combine the foreground element from image one with the background in image 2.- You can use any selection tool, then go into Quick Mask mode to edit the selection.
- Save the selection as an Alpha channel.
- Another method is to use Calculations to help create a mask.
- Edit the Alpha Channel to perfect the edges of the mask. Remember: paint with black to mask pixels out, and paint white to include pixels.
- SAVE AND MOVE
- When your Alpha channel is perfect, save image 1 as "image1.psd". Make sure the Format in the Save as... dialog box says "Photoshop".
- Load your Alpha channel as a selection and move the selection onto image 2.
- Place the new foreground where you want it in image 2.
- Save the combined image file as "final.psd". Make sure the Format in the Save as... dialog box says "Photoshop".
- TURN IT IN
Turn in the entire "Lastname Project 8" folder into the "Project 8" folder in the Inbox. I should see the following in your "Lastname Project 8" folder:- image 1 with the desired foreground and unwanted background
- image 2 with the desired background
- "image1.psd" with your masking Alpha Channel saved in the Channels palette
- "final.psd" which combines the two
